FULLY FUNDED! Mrs. Maxim-Otterbacher's classroom raised $809

This project is fully funded

I am a sixth grade teacher on the south side of Chicago. I have 28 children in my classroom and I teach them all subjects. My school is in a very low income neighborhood and there is a great need for supplies. Just about everything in my classroom library I have purchased. There is no school library, so whatever books I have is what my students get to read. I have been working very hard for the last six years to build an exciting and full classroom library. By shopping garage sales and second hand stores, I have found a lot. But as I organized my library at the beginning of the year, I realized most of the books in my library are fiction. I am desperately trying to add different genres. It is so important for students to be exposed to as many different forms of writing as possible. I would love to have more mythology, poetry, historical fiction, short stories, and biographies. With more options for the students to choose from, the more likely they are to find a book that they truly enjoy. I am also organizing my library by genres and would love some bins to put the books in. Each genre has a color and I would like bins that correspond with each genre. Success in school and success in life depends on the ability to read. Students should have the opportunity to learn this skill with books that they love and are interested in. Please help me to reach this goal, so my students now and in the future will develop a love for reading!
