This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students are dreamers, thinkers, talkers, and questioners. They are mathematicians, writers, readers, scientists, entrepreneurs, and teachers.

They are our future and I want to give them a great start to their lifelong education.

Many of the students in my school are being raised in low-income households and receive a free daily breakfast and lunch. With limited school supplies, it's difficult to teach fun and creatively. Despite these setbacks, I am hoping to inspire my students so that they continue on a path of academia and constant learning.

My Project

Our school is one block away from a major freeway and our classroom faces the sun directly. We do not have air conditioning nor an air filtering system, but we still have to open our windows and classroom doors for "fresh" air. It can get very hot in our classroom (75+ degrees), so opening the door that leads out to the yard is essential in cooling down the room. When we open the door, however, the classroom fills with all of the emissions coming from the freeway. I have students with asthma and allergies and having an air purifier will make a world of a difference. Please help us get a portable air purifying system for the classroom to improve the quality of the air we breathe every day. In addition to poor air quality, our classroom also collects a lot of dust from the freeway. The school's contract with the custodians does not require the classroom to be vacuumed everyday, so having a high quality cordless vacuum will make it easier to clean the smog residue, dust, and bacteria that collects daily in our classroom.

An air purifier and vacuum will improve the health and happiness of my students in the classroom, which will make a a long-term difference in their lives.

I've also requested plastic folders for each student because their classwork gets dusty from the smog residue laying in their desks without any protection. The storage bins will be used to store the cleaning supplies for easy access.
