My Project
We are an urban school that departmentalizes for each subject, which means I teach three cohorts of third grade reading. Having a classroom rug creates a community space for us to read, learn, and engage. The kidney table allows for a space for students to learn in small group, and build connections by sharing personal stories while learning and reteaching new topics. My students have a disadvantage when it comes to vocabulary and background knowledge. With these tools they have opportunities to work with words, books, and notebooks to engage in learning!
