My Students
How lucky am I? As a primary teacher, I have the opportunity to make an early impression. I teach first grade in an urban, Title I school. We are an International Baccalaureate school developing global citizens through inquiry. My diverse classroom welcomes all types of students.
"The future of the world is in my classroom today," Ivan Welton Fitzwater.
My first graders are caring, open-minded, curious students that love learning. I hope to foster these leadership qualities in all children.
My Project
My first graders would love to have heavy-duty book bins in our classroom. I want to build a community of readers that can access books independently. First, we can build a classroom library with storage that makes it easy for students to view and choose books with many different reading levels and interests. Students can better find a text with their favorite characters, topics, or genre in an organized classroom library. Second, students can choose books they want to read and store them in their own book box so they are always ready for independent and partner reading. Reading time is maximized when books and materials are at their fingertips.
Every is library day in my classroom!
We will use these materials to manage our texts in an organized way, but also build a community of readers. By having easy access to books, students will be excited to read, discuss, and share books. And the only way to become a better reader is to...read!
