This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
My young girls are learning all about cosmetology and self-beauty. The teenage years can be rather challenging as their identity is developing and they internalize all they see in the media. My students have low self-esteem and often need guidance on hygiene and beauty tips. Additionally, some of them want to learn about the cosmetology career and want to pursue this on the side while they get their education.
My students are learning the practical skills to take care of themselves and to make a career out of it while getting their education.
We started with the mannequin heads working on hair braiding and makeup. Now we want to learn to apply some of the skills to real people and to each other. We are also moving on to nail art! As we provide all these health and beauty tools, students have asked us to make them more versatile by expanding to nail art training. To keep all of these tools organized and mobile we are also requesting two trolleys. My students are motivated and excited to continue with these projects.
