Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

I am a second grade teacher at a Title I school. Title I means that over 50% of our students receive free or reduced lunch. Every student is valued, challenged, and successful at my school. Establishing a strong language and math foundation is critical. In a differentiated classroom, a teacher needs different tools to teach the building blocks of grammar and math. This project will allow the auditory learners in my classroom to grasp the concepts taught in class. Studies have also shown the power of learning kinesthetically, so I could also create motions to go along with the songs to reinforce learning for all students. The songs will reinforce grammar and math skills they are learning as part of the state content standards. I do not have a stereo in the classroom that has the ability to play CDs. I currently connect a small portable CD player to the TV in order to play music. This stereo will also be compatible with listening post headphones, so the students could listen to the songs as part of a classroom center. The grammar “Sing & Learn” songs have overheads that go along with the songs. The catchy lyrics help students learn about suffixes, plurals, nouns and more. In reflecting back on my own learning, I can still remember catchy songs or slogans that help me remember how to use proper grammar. The kit also includes reproducible sheets, so the students can take the lyrics home to practice. The math “Sing & Learn” songs address 12 different math concepts, such as time & money, fractions, and place value. The kit comes with lyrics on giant sized posters, so students can follow along. Your help will ensure that my students will establish a strong foundation in language and math, and the additional resource will allow all of my students to succeed. Using proper grammar and solving mathematical problems are part of every day life. Thank you for your consideration. My students are auditory learners, so they need math and grammar songs to supplement my instruction.
