Adding The Vanderbeekers and The Uglies series to our 6th-grade classroom library will help foster a love for books. These two popular series offer compelling narratives that cater to different interests, ensuring every student finds something to captivate their imagination.
By incorporating these must-read series into our library, we can inspire students with diverse narratives that appeal to various interests and spark curiosity.
The Vanderbeekers series by Karina Yan Glaser follows the adventures of a close-knit family in a Harlem brownstone. These heartwarming stories explore themes of family, community, and resilience, offering students lessons in empathy and understanding. With relatable characters and touching narratives, this series is perfect for readers who enjoy realistic fiction filled with warmth and humor.
Scott Westerfeld’s Uglies series takes readers into a futuristic dystopian world where Tally Youngblood grapples with a society enforcing extreme beauty standards through mandatory surgery. Filled with action, suspense, and thought-provoking themes, this series challenges students to think critically about individuality and societal norms. It's an excellent choice for fans of science fiction and imaginative storytelling.
