Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Imagine the possibilities of a great lesson if I just had all of the materials that I need. Books are the most important element to the development of a lesson specially for small children because they are visual learners. Unfortunately, we don't have many of the books required to present the lessons
My students are five and six year old children that are in their majority recent immigrants.
They come from families with very low socioeconomic statuses, that are facing the challenges of surviving in a new country, in a new culture. My boys and girls are beautiful children that, although scared, are trying to assimilate a whole new world to them. My campus, is wonderful, but located in a low socioeconomic neighborhood, in a huge district that can not always meet the needs of all of it's students. Sometimes it is up to us teachers to find the means to reach our students to deliver the best possible education.
My Project
My students are eager learners that enjoy good, interesting stories. The books that I am requesting, besides being excellent instructional tools, they are great children books. All of the books that I am requesting will be used for either social studies or for language arts lessons. They will target bullying, belonging, self esteem, environmental awareness, and holidays.
Small children that are coming to school for the first time are faced with many new challenges.
These challenges include separation from their parents, a different environment, rules, acceptance from their peers plus instructional material that they might not be familiar with. With your donations, I will be able to provide books that will aid in the transition from home to school along with topics that are required for them to understand during their first year in school.
