I serve close to 600 students a week. My students come from a rural community where they do not always have the same cultural opportunities as the big city students. Almost 90% of the student body receives free or reduced lunch and every child in the school is provided breakfast. There is a very special group within the student body, that is my Middle School Band.
My Middle School Band students come to my classroom with different interests, dreams, and expectations, but our common goal is to make great music and grow our appreciation of the arts.
Many of my students use my class as an outlet and a place to express themselves. Some of them see it as a place to fit in and grow through middle and high school. Some can even see the bigger possibility of band taking them to college or into a career in the real world.
We are in the process of growing our program and trying to provide the students with more opportunities. The band has grown in size and we sparked the interest of many more students. My goal is to provide them with a quality education with quality materials and equipment.
The students in my band classes want to learn to play their instruments and share what they have learned with family, friends, and community. They need music stands that will hold their materials not only for rehearsal purposes, but also during our performances throughout the year. We would like to get out and share our gifts with the surrounding community. We would like to travel and perform for a wide range of audiences.
By donating and helping us get these new music stands we will be able to reach out to more audiences and give more students more chances to perform.
Reliable music stands will allow the students to focus on the task at hand and not worry about picking up music and stands that have fallen. Students will be able to sit with good posture, see their music, and follow the director if they have proper music stands.
The band will be able to travel and know that their equipment will be ready to go when we get to our destination. We will be able to accommodate more musicians and grow our program. We want to be
