Musical Tunes with Osmo Coding Jam

My Students

The music room is a place where students can escape everyday worries to explore, create, make mistakes and learn.

Students should have all the necessary tools to be successful in learning and how to be a positive respectful person!

I work in a Title I school, meaning that almost all of my students come from diverse and economically disadvantaged homes; however, this does not deter them in any way. They are eager to learn and thankful for the opportunity to be in school.

Worrying about cleanliness, food, money, transportation, ​and clothing are issues adults may be concerned with; yet, many of the my students face these "grown-up" problems each day. In spite of the challenges they face, they constantly rise to the occasion and frequently blow me away with their abilities to learn. My students deserve a chance at doing their best, fostering a love for music and engaging their creativity.

My Project

We are requesting Osmo Coding Jam so my students can become composers. They will be able to practice their coding skills along with making cool musical tunes. I am always looking for ways to incorporate technology to help engage my students in music in different ways. My students will become little composers as they work together to place magnetic coding blocks to create new melodies and drum beats. This will help enhance their problem solving skills while increasing their musical knowledge as well.

The Osmo Coding Jam game will allow my students to practice their coding skills while making musical tunes.

This will encourage those students that may be apprehensive about their music and will further ignite the creativity in the artistic students.
