My Project
I am asking for musical instruments and karaoke machines for my students to be able to learn about, make, and experience music in a fun creative way. My classroom, as it is now, only has maracas which is only one small part of the musical instruments a classroom can have.
My students come from several lower income communities, but communities that celebrate and thrive in music.
From second lines, to concerts in the park to street performers my students have been exposed to all kinds of music and I would love the opportunity to learn more about and experience music on their own level. The karaoke machines will allow my class to write, style, and perform their own songs that they can create as well as cover other songs that they love to hear. The drums and percussion instruments are because they hear drums at parades and those seem to be the main instruments they are currently interested in. The Xylophones are to allow them to listen to the pitches and tones of different keys.
All of these instruments will be incorporated throughout the classroom during this study for the students to familiarize themselves. I will also work with other classrooms to put on a performance for the students to share with their families the skills and knowledge they have gained during this study.
With your assistance and donation I truly hope to give this invaluable experience to my young learners. A love of music can help drive them and motivate them for years to come especially in a city that loves and values music like ours does.
