Research reflects that students involved in the arts are better readers, test takers, more confident, and are more outgoing. Music is a life skill that all students can take with them throughout their lives. Music is an eclectic subject that relates to many others. Our district has not had music as an opportunity for many years. The district is rebuilding this opportunity. The materials proposed are to teach some basic music skills involving reading music, melody, and rhythm. The goals of the program are:
1: To teach students to read music and play some basic melodies on a keyboard.
2. To teach the students note values and play basic rhythms as part of a percussion group. 3. To experience a performance as a music group. 4 To help foster a lifelong love of music.
Materials purchased will help provide a unique and exciting opportunity that will offer the chance for our 5th through 8th grade students to experience part of what music has to offer. “The Halls are Alive with the Sounds of Music.” Please help us fill our halls with melodies, flashy rhythm, performances and students immersed in the love of music.
