I teach general music class (pre-k to 5) at a medium sized elementary school in Virginia and my students are eager to learn all types of different musical instruments. This is only my second week in the school and I had already gotten to know that most of the students in school really enjoy to learn about playing instruments.
From interacting and teaching these students, I received a lot of passion and enthusiasm from students when they see their new music classroom filled with all the instruments that I displayed around the classroom.
It is my intention to help my students to be exposed to as much instrumental experience as they can before they enter middle school. I strongly hope that I can inspire students to grow musically and learn to appreciate music as a part of their lives.
My Project
Xylophones are treasures to have in every elementary music classrooms but unfortunately not every music room has the luxury of providing the xylophones to students. The reason that xylophone is a useful and effective tool for music teacher is that it can easily engage students in learning. The teachers can teach the students how to read or improvise with xylophone early on and with proper instruction the students will be able to master the improvisation using pentatonic scale. I would like to help students to have as much ensemble performance experience as they can in elementary school because the older they get, the less likely they will have a chance to be part of musical group outside of traditional band, orchestra, and chorus. The xylophone ensemble is not particularly unique but it is always good to have one in a school because it can produce some real amazing music.
One of the most impactful moments of young students live is when they perform for the public.
I want the students to have the opportunities to showcase their musical skill and reach their fullest potential musically.
The students will learn to be more than just playing the instrument, they will also learn to become a better listener, team player, and a performer. The students will learn the discipline of listening and following conductor like they will learn in band/chorus. The ensemble will prepare the students for any musical ensemble that they may take part in the future.
