Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
Middle school is such a tough time for many kids, which is also an opportunity to create community among adolescents during a difficult time in their lives.
By including fun, music, circle discussions, and rewards/incentives into Science, students are encouraged to share, laugh, and connect with their peers.
This makes students more willing to learn and share when it comes to engaging in Science. When the classroom culture is positive and well-connected, students are more willing to be vulnerable and show what they know, share with peers, help each other, and learn new skills such as presenting, being a leader in the group activity, or conducting an experiment where they might not know the outcome.
I will use the rug, instruments, and pillows for our circle discussions. WE discuss deep topics, sing silly songs, and do meditations. The posters help set a calm and positive tone for the classroom setting. The snacks, bracelets, and treats are for our class store. Students earn points in Class Dojo Points for being kind, working hard, helping others, and being a class employee. Then, they can use their points to shop from the class store on Friday. Students really enjoy this weekly ritual and go above and beyond to behave and work hard because they know their efforts will be rewarded.
