This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Have you ever been at an air show with really loud planes flying over you? Or have you jumped when a motorcycle has gone by or an ambulance blares its alarm? Perhaps that is what my students feel especially the ones with autism who are sensitive to sound.

I have amazing students!

They have disabilities ranging from down syndrome to autism to Di Georges syndrome. We are a class of k-7th graders. We are in a very low income area where resources are scarce. THEY LOVE MUSIC! They are up to date with the most popular tunes and are always wanting to dance or listen to music.

My Project

We are asking for 4 MP3 players for the classroom. We had them a few years ago and then they were stolen, and then they were refunded by donorschoose a couple years ago. We had 4 but are down to 2 because one got crushed and one barely works because the student accidentally got water on it and it wont play music anymore. These MP3 players are a core part of our room. Kids will even request to work for being able to listen to music on the MP3 players. But pretty soon we will be down to none and I want to make sure that we have access to them, and all of the students are able to have access when they need them.

My students love the MP3 player.

We have found so many uses for them that we have even presented on how valuable they can be to a classroom. We have one that a student listens to his music therapy on and one that simply calms down our most hyper and aggressive student as soon as he has access to it. The students can listen to books on them, practice their ABC's and 123's. These are one of the most valuable resources that we have ever received and I am hoping that we can continue to have.
