Music to My Ears

My students need CDs to help them learn basic concepts such as letters, rhyming, counting, numbers, patterns, and shapes.

My Students

We use music throughout the day. It helps my students learn basic concepts such as letters, numbers, and shapes. Music also signals transitions, and helps students relax at the end of the day. Using music in my classroom also helps address multiple learning styles, and keeps my students engaged.

I currently have 13 students, 7 girls and 6 boys, in my class from various ethnic backgrounds, that represent 3 different languages.

46% of my students are English Language Learners, and 23% have an identified special need. My students are excited about learning, and they enjoy singing songs and listening to music throughout the day.

My Project

Music like Dr. Jean's, is used throughout the day. It is used to signal transitions between activities, teach basic skills such as letter sound recognition, counting, shapes, colors, patterns, and rhyming. CDs are also available for independent student use, in the music center and the library center. During quiet time, music is played to help students relax from a busy day. My students also enjoy listening to music from different cultures represented in the class.

Music serves as a common language, to help bridge the language barrier and increase student achievement.

The goal is for my students to use music as another avenue, to help them learn the basic skills that will prepare them for Kindergarten. Using music as an instructional resource, helps prepare my students for the 21st century, and increases their global awareness.
