Music Through Boomwhackers!

Help me give my students two sets of boomwhackers for a creative, colorful, and hands-on activity to explore melody and harmony!

My Project

Being able to give these students a hands-on experience with quality equipment is very important to me. My goal is for the students to use boomwhackers to develop their creativity and teamwork. Boomwhackers are lightweight, hollow, color-coded plastic tubes, tuned to certain pitches by length. Through teamwork, students use boomwhackers to play melodies, learn chords, scales, and develop precise timing. These students are so excited for music and cannot wait for what's next to learn! I currently teach with a handmade set of boomwhackers that were passed down to me when I began teaching. The students get excited to make music with boomwhackers and any other hands-on lessons that are planned. A new color-coded set of boom whackers would be so beneficial to the students for expedited music note recognition. These lightweight and colorful tools are so helpful when moving from classroom to classroom!

For most students, elementary music is their first experience in music, and I want every minute filled with critical thinking, fun, and exploration.

It is my hope that these items will give these students positive, hands on, and fun musical memories that they can always look back on!
