This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Due to the recent changes in classroom settings we are working without instruments. My current curriculum is meant for instrument use making this a challenging time to work with students. Students often do not have background knowledge in music theory or history. Especially some of the lower income families, they do not have instruments at home or the means to see performances.

We are doing the best we can using our theory books, however these were not meant to be the sole curriculum for a class.

With these new materials students will have more opportunities to work on extended theory lessons, music history, listening examples, and composers that we do not have right now. Students will also have more opportunities for writing and projects falling in line with our school goals for writing and IB program.

Music is more than talent and playing, there is hard work, dedication reading, writing, math, science and social studies. Music open the doors for social and emotion skills as well. It is important for me to be able to assist my students with all means possible, however this year I need some help from my community to achieve these goals!

My Project

With these materials students will be able to learn about theory, history, and more. During the crisis last year students were sent home before completing their learning and teachers were scrambling to make it work online.

Music is one of the classes that has a completely different curriculum and structure.

These materials will allow me to expand my current lessons, add more music to their repertoire and open their eyes and minds to music from across the decades with history and research studies. Along with this these materials would allow me to teach from home if for any reason my class or myself was quarantined.

Having materials readily available for in class or virtual teaching is now extremely important across schools in the nation. These materials would help me achieve those goals without skipping a beat in learning.
