Music at our school is such an exciting group of mixed interests, abilities, and goals. Some of my students are learning to read, write, and count, while some of their classmates are learning to imitate sounds or hold a paintbrush, and some are producing a hip-hop record on their own! Our group loves to play outside, learn new games, and boogie to a sweet tune.
In this class, we build a community around what we have in common and our shared experiences.
We are part of a larger school that celebrates inclusion. I teach in a wing of creative teachers that teach STEM, art, and foreign language from K on! My classroom is about building trust and creativity to allow true creative expression. The work we do in this classroom is building relationships, exploring within, following directions, and accessing a part of themselves they are rarely taught to look. We celebrate and teach each other every day.
My Project
The use of digital music is almost a daily activity in my classroom, especially in the arts. This studio will allow me and the children to see and hear exactly what they are doing, as well as provide an example of their creative work. What becomes a problem is the fact that the memories never seem to last. Even though they are great about doing this, it is difficult for many of my students who have music only once or twice to remember the magic that they have made. By having a studio, they can carry that pride with them anywhere and show others what they accomplished, increasing their memory and pride!

Students will be able to simply express themselves and not worry about forgetting what they have done. Plus in this technology literate world, any interaction with updated technology will increase their literacy as well as their desire to learn and use the new technology!
