This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

Dear Donor, I am a New York City Teaching Fellow (Cohort 10) who is working on completing my first year as the music teacher at X188 @ PS 34 in the Bronx, NY. My school is a district 75, special education school and my students range from pre-k autistic to 5th grade emotionally disturbed. 100% of my students receive free breakfast and lunch through my school. Earlier this year, through a generous donation, I was given 80 recorders with a commitment to teach each 3rd grader this year and each 3rd and 4th grader next year. At the end of February, the recorders arrived and the students were thrilled. Since then we have been learning the notes on this instrument, practicing breath control and slowly learning to read music. I have two recorder ensembles that will be performing at our Spring Concert on May 4th and 5th. However, since our music program is brand new, I have recently realized that my school has no music stands! I would like these students to take pride in performing in our first ensembles at the school and to understand how a performance occurs. Having music stands to use will greatly enhance this experience and add to our rapidly growing music program. Should you fund this proposal, the children and I would be incredibly grateful and your donation will be highlighted at the concert.
