Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Our students come from a wide variety of demographic backgrounds and experiences that range from some having a difficult time acquiring a place to sleep and food to eat while only a few of our students don't have a problem with those basic needs and do not have a problem procuring their own instrument.
When I started a band program for our 5th-8th graders, the students rushed in, eager to learn and be a part of something so exciting.
Some of them still get so sad when they have to leave to go to their other classes or even go home. Our students have become a family for one another. Regardless of the different backgrounds, they all hold something in common -a desire to learn and make music together.
My Project
Our band family works hard to share the joy of music with others but it is challenging to be mobile musicians without a cart for all of the music stands we need for the performances.
Our young musicians not only rehearse to grow musically on their campus, but they are often carting to other places in the community to share music with others.
With the music stand cart, we will be able to effectively transport the music stands we need for the performances without having each student trying to hold their own instrument, plus their music, plus their music stand, plus whatever other materials they might need for the performance. Help us free up one of their hands to focus on the music itself and less on the shuffle between performances.
