Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

International High School in New York City is a program designed to welcome students who have been in the United States four years or less (and who have been designated as English Language Learners) into an environment where they can be successful academically. Currently, we are a first year school with little to no extracurricular programming other than what the teachers / staff can afford to provide the students through out of pocket expenses. Our music program, while a good opportunity for students to gain a better understanding of how music works, does not give them experience with any instruments. That is my proposal to Donors Choose. I am requesting funding for twenty "starter" guitars that can be utilized by our student population to better understand instrumental music. Over 90% of our student population is on free or reduced lunch programming; so, instruments are not something to which our students would normally have access. This will open up their eyes to an entirely different world of opportunities.
