Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Music inspires my students to learn every single day! The kindergarten and first grade students get to have music with me every day at our new urban charter school. Through music we are learning about everything, from literacy and African culture to community and self-esteem. These students are not auditioned, they are chosen by lottery from a large urban area. For my low-income, at-risk students, these moments in music mean the world.
As a brand new start up, however, we have very little in the way of funding. I am trying to put together a music library and need a way to play the world's great music for my attentive students. As of now we only a limited number of CD's, most of which are used.
My school has an amazing opportunity to teach students who would normally never even have music. In order to reach the potential such a music program can offer, a basic sound system is required. We need an MP3 player and docking station so that my students can listen to the great masters, without skips and scratches.
Your help will ensure that my students are able to listen to and experience great music from around the world and from our own rich American tradition, as well. These experiences in music will expand their understanding of the world around them, and help them gain pride in themselves, as well. Such moments in music may very well change their lives.
