In my classroom every day, I see the future. Who will become a musician, who will become an engineer, who will explore the world and invent the next greatest thing? The possibilities are endless, and these materials could be just what it takes to inspire these children to dream, invent, create, and design.
The world of virtual reality levels the playing field for students who may not be able to travel, explore, or imagine places and things outside of their communities.
The Meta Quest 2 and Merge Cubes will allow students to visit other countries, explore the human heart from inside the body, or even explore the planets in our solar system. Each of these materials will be used in units of learning that encourage children to ask questions, evaluate information, and make decisions to help them build their understanding of topics and concepts they may not have even considered.
With the Specdrums, students will incorporate color and music to create their songs, soundtracks, and even sound effects. Just one little ring and an iPad and students can begin to put together sounds from a variety of musical instruments by tapping into the colors of the world.
How about electrical engineering, making circuits, and channeling electricity? All of these things can be explored literally in a snap with Snap Circuits. Each box helps students explore, imagine, problem-solve, and create, all safely and excitingly. The building pieces snap together easily in rows and columns, requiring no special tools, and help students better understand how circuit boards work in most electronic devices.
These new materials will offer my students hours and hours of imaginative, constructive, and innovative thinking and creation. Each of these items will help reach over 600 students and may inspire future generations to become whatever they dream to be.
