This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

In our community, students lack access to basic musical instruments. Most have seen orchestral instruments online or on YouTube, but not upclose. Others have not had any exposure to music other than what's heard on the radio/online.

In recent years, the school budget has been slashed and a lot of the money for music has had to be raised by the students, families, and faculty in a variety of ways.

As a former student of this middle school, it gives me great joy to come back and give my time to teach these students about my first love: music. There is no greater joy than the look on a student's face when they can finally hit that first note on their instrument.

My Project

Hello again! We are looking to continue to build up more of the little things in our classroom. As a way to help our theory skills, we are looking to acquire white erase boards, wipe-away pockets for worksheets, and chart paper!

In addition, our main stringed instruments are in need of strings and guitar picks to play!

Lastly, the students need various things to help keep their classroom organized and current. The small file cabinet will help keep original scores protected. String winders will help the guitarists, and rosin will keep our bows playing quick and with gusto this spring!
