This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Project
I teach at a STEM focused school, and as such, math and science are incorporated into our music lessons on a regular basis. My young scholars love learning about how sound is created, exploring the different sounds objects can make and then figuring out the 'why', and creating soundscapes, justifying their selection of instruments with 'sound' reasoning.
My sweet students are very curious, and I love it!
Adding an Alto Orff xylophone to our classroom will not only allow another student the opportunity to play the alto, or middle part, during ensemble time, but will also provide another student with an instrument on which to create his/her own music. It will allow that student hands on time to explore and really understand those scientific concepts of sound that we work on regularly, especially since it is easy to see that it is larger than the soprano xylophone. Since Orff instruments are well built and durable, this instrument will be around for years, available for future students to enjoy and learn on.
As always, thank you for your interest in my students, my music program, and my project.
