Dear Sirs, I am a middle school band director who teaches at two rural schools in North Carolina. Our band program is well established, but is in need due to funding issues. Every year I have different students who ask if we have a keyboard in our bands and I have to turn them away. These students desire to learn how to play music but are unable to participate unless they provide their own instrument, which due to economic factors, they cannot. The band at Tabor City Middle is severely limited in the area of bass voiced instruments. If we had keyboard players, these students could learn the bass clef and play the tuba and baritone parts on the keyboard. We could adjust the volume to blend with the other instruments and enhance the experience both for the participating students, their fellow students, and the audience members who listen to our concerts as well. I have located a versatile keyboard sold by a nearby music dealership. I am requesting the Yamaha Portable Keyboard DGX203 and Peavey keyboard amplifier (KB1). The keyboard is sold for 299.99, and the amplifier for 119.99. The students who would not get to benefit from the experience of learning music, their classmates, and our community would benefit from having this music resource for years to come.
