Music into Pictures

Help me give my students the proper art supplies such as oil pastels and poster board in order to create their visual language for National Hispanic Heritage Month.

My Project

Pictures from Music: National Hispanic Heritage Month. I would like to provide my students with the ability to create a three-dimensional low profile abstract expressionism painting. Throughout the 4-week project, students will listen to three Latin American composers and interpret the music into an abstract expressionism painting as part of our National Hispanic Heritage Month project. Additionally, students will explore Latin and North American painters and extrapolate how to incorporate abstract expressionism into their visual language. Students will be encouraged to explore Latin American music and oil pastels on uneven painting surfaces. As well as explore the interaction of line and color on various types of paper. (low profile sculpture planes)

The grant provides a wonderful opportunity to introduce three Latin American music composers and explore the principle techniques of abstract expressionism and color theory to help students communicate their visual language.

The abstract painting unit will build a stronger foundation for the art program by providing another creative platform for expression. It can help spark students’ creativity and build greater interest in the visual arts. It will also help differentiate our art students from other local and regional art programs by expanding their awareness of music and the visual arts. Many schools do not offer this type of project because it is costly and the final projects take up a lot of space for display.

Moreover, enriching our students’ lives with more technical experiences provides greater knowledge and empowers them to implement various techniques to satisfy their artistic expression.
