Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
If it seems like educational trends move pretty fast, then music education is moving at warp factor 9! I teach elementary music to students from Kinder through 5th grade at a low-socioeconomic urban school.
In trying to keep up with the innovative music technology now available, I am ready to bring my classroom out of the dark ages once and for all. The resources my students and I are asking for will allow us to move more quickly through our lessons and give us more time for musical creativity.
One of the most difficult skills to teach music students is composition. The Sibelius Student Edition software will provide intuitive notation and rhythm lessons to enhance their classroom instruction and the tools to create, print, and playback their own music. An ipod for our classroom will allow me to download the multiple cds I use in my daily lessons into one quick, convenient, and portable source. As I usually do not see my music students but once a week, I often need to burn rehearsal cds so that the grade level teachers can practice with the children daily leading up to a performance. The pack of blank CD-Rs will allow us to keep our young musicians sharp and help reduce the amount of skills reteaching I need to do each week.
