Music in the Classroom

Help me give my students musical instruments, including drums, chimes, and a rainstick, for the joy of music!

My Students

I teach at a public elementary school on the island of Maui in Hawaii. My school is a Title I school with a largely socioeconomically​ disadvantaged student population. 65% of our students participate in the free and reduced lunch program. We have a population of over 700 highly diverse students with a wide variety of backgrounds, ethnicity, abilities, and individual needs. Students speak multiple languages and 30% of our students are English Language Learners. Students benefiting from my project will range from Kindergarten through 5th graders.

My Project

Help give my students the joy of music with these requested drums, rainstick, a thunder tube, Tibetan Tingsha Cymbals, Woodstock Chimes, and a musical percussion set.

Unfortunately, this year we don't have a music teacher and our students are really missing out on this gift.

The instruments in this project will allow my students the opportunity to explore beautiful sounds and express their creativity.

Improved cognition, enhanced learning, increased memory, and mood elevation are a few of the positive effects music has on students. Music is a way of learning about life, expressing creativity, and connecting ourselves to the world around us. This is a gift I want to share with my students. Through music, we can inspire students to imagine a future filled with innovative solutions to the world’s problems and to create healthier options for their life.
