This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I am a second grade teacher in a low-income school in Washington Heights, New York. My second graders are an inspiring bunch. They are filled with energy and a strong desire to learn. It is amazing watching them every day - trying their best. As their teacher, I try to provide them with enriching lessons that will inspire and motivate them.
A great way to motivate students is through music. I can just imagine having students listen to a particular song and be able describe their emotions and mental imagery. It would be a great way to introduce poetry. I can also imagine teaching about various countries and using music so they can understand the cultures. There are so many possibilities that music can offer my students. It can expose them to various unfamiliar genres, such as classical music.
However, in order to provide my students with these possibilities, we need a CD/Cassette player.
The stereo would be used during our music lessons, introductions to certain lessons, and even during quiet work time (as they listen to classical music). I hope to broaden their taste in music and bring energy into our lessons.
