My Students
As stated in our vision statement, our students are truly “a community of lifelong learners with heart.” Ranging in age from 3-12, our school services students who come from a variety of different backgrounds, from culture to socio-economic class. We service a high population of English Language Learners (ELL), special education, and students who dwell in apartments/condominiums, making a majority of our students transient.
Despite the diverse student population we cater to, all students have one thing in common, and that is they are all hungry for learning and broadening their abilities and knowledge.
With the goal of educating the whole child, students are beginning to shine in different areas other than just the core subjects.
My Project
Music is a universal language that touches everyone in one way or another. It allows for creativity, and it stimulates the mind in various ways.
Our school has a ton of ukuleles that are in storage, collecting dust, but there is no teacher to actually instruct on how to play them.
With the right resources and materials, an actual ukulele club can be formed, where students are able to learn how to play a ukulele from an experienced instructor.
Music stands, cases, a tuner, and various other resources are needed in order to fulfill the needs of this club. These resources will ensure that the students are well equipped to learn the basic skills of ukulele playing. A music stand will help keep music sheets in place during practices and performances. Cases will help students transport ukuleles, in case students need to practice at home. A tuner will help make sure every ukulele is on key, and a baton and strap will help the instructor lead the students to play on beat. The strap will help keep the ukulele in place.
Having these materials will really benefit this club and these students that will be a part of it. Many students have already expressed their interest in joining, but it can't happen without these materials.
More than half of students from low‑income households
