This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

A piece of music can touch us and move us and stir up all kinds of emotions. It can cheer us up when we are upset, make us smile when we are sad, and help us relax when we are stressed. Please help me bring the joy and appreciation of music back into my classroom and into the lives of my students.

My students come from a high poverty area of California where the schools are losing more and more funding each year.

Due to budget problems, some essential programs that many of us took for granted when we were in school have been cut. The students in my class range from ages 6 through 9. They have been expelled from their schools because of violent or disruptive behavior. They lack social skills and need ways to express their emotions other than through physical or verbal confrontations. Playing music with others is a great team building activity, a great way build confidence and self worth, and an outlet in which students can express themselves in a positive manner. Music also teaches self discipline, self control and responsibility. Most of these students have never had the opportunity to play a musical instrument or even be exposed to different kinds of music.

My Project

The resources that I am requesting are recorders for my class. Recorders are a fantastic way to learn classic pieces of music, rhythm, patterns, and a great introduction to learning to play a musical instrument. I am also requesting 3 acoustic guitars to teach a small group of students to learn to play cords and simple songs. The third thing that I am requesting is an acoustic electric guitar pack with amplifier so the students that are learning the guitar will be able to perform to others and build self confidence in front of a small audience.

These donations will help my students become more confident, have a greater appreciation for music and themselves.

My students need something like this to help with their overall education and help them to become productive citizens and hopefully inspire them to do their best and want to be here at school.
