Music Education Matters: Creating a Sense of Belonging- Concert Attire

Celebrate Black Teachers and Students

This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.

My Project

As a music educator, I challenge myself to create an environment that encourages music literacy, thus providing performance opportunities that allow my students to put the skills that they are learning in the classroom into practice at musical events. The items that I am requesting are intended to encourage unity, a greater sense of responsibility to the ensemble and to the music, and a sense of belonging within the ensemble in preparation for/during various performances.

It is important for students to SEE that they belong within an ensemble.

An important part of this visual is concert attire. These students deserve to look good and feel good both on and off stage. Because of this desire, I am requesting dress shoes for a clean and uniform look. In order to keep the lending process of these shoes sanitary for future ensemble members, use of the disposable shoe liners will be mandatory for those borrowing the dress shoes. The garment bags will be used when I take groups to travel. Having a designated place to store their clothing will give the students a greater sense of responsibility for their attire. Thank you for acknowledging the importance of belonging and morale through appropriate concert attire by considering being a sponsor of this project.
