This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students are part of a Title I school very close to the Mexican border. The majority of my students take on the responsibilities of caring for their younger siblings. This does not give them much opportunity to be a kid and do the things they love.

To my students, music class is where they can feel safe in their emotions and express their feelings without fear of judgment.

My classroom is a safe environment for all to explore music and how it makes them feel. We explore music by listening, creating, and performing!

My Project

My school has a limited amount of musical instruments for my general music classes. With the purchase of recorders and boomwhackers, I will be able to provide more children with the ability to read and perform music in a variety of grade levels.

The boomwhackers will give kinder through eighth grade the opportunity to create music ranging from easy to hard.

It allows my students the learn the social skills they need in order to perform in an ensemble. They will be required to learn to read music, listen to themselves and others, and play their instrument in time with the accompaniment CDs.

Recorders will allow my school to continue to support our 3rd grade, 4th grade, and 8th-grade recorder units that last for about a quarter. The more instruments we have at our school, the easier it will be for me to implement performance-based projects including composition projects!
