My students rock! I teach General Music to K - 5th Grade students in a comprehensive small urban to suburban neighborhood. Students at our school have an opportunity to be involved in Band, Chorus, and various enrichment extensions of General Music. They love to make music. Our students in 3rd through 5th Grade are learning to play the soprano recorder.
Although some students have been able to bring a recorder to school, there are still some students who have not been able to practice due to lack of materials.
With the items we are requesting for this project, all of my student who don't have a classroom recorder will have one! Thank you so much for your support! We want to reward our students with diverse quality music instruction that reinforces concepts of creativity, collaboration, and good musicianship!
My students rock! I teach General Music to K - 5th Grade students in a comprehensive small urban to suburban neighborhood. Students at our school have an opportunity to be involved in Band, Chorus, and various enrichment extensions of General Music. General music students currently have a two-computer technology center and a new listening station. Having at least 5 fully functioning classroom centers that students can rotate through each week will create a more inclusive environment for all students and will allow me to work on music theory, sight singing, and singing in small groups! Some of the titles I am ordering for our music reading center are: "Visual and Performing Artists (Women in Profile)", "Duke Ellington The Piano Prince and His Orchestra", "Who Was Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart?", "Who Was Michael Jackson?", "Ballerina Dreams: From Orphan to Dancer", "Who Is Elton John?", and "Who Were the Beatles?". We will also receive a new Kaplans Feathers Frog Square small area rug for our reading nook. I have also requested much coveted construction paper and art supplies from Blick Art Materials.
Teaching using centers will allow students to connect to music learning in diverse ways that build on their strength as readers using books about music topics, creating crafts that display music learning, demonstrating aesthetic preferences for song literature, and by playing the recorder!
With the items we are requesting for this project, we will be able to fill our music centers with literature on music and musicians, crafting supplies, and provide recorders for a few student who don't have a personal classroom instrument on which to play songs.
