Music has become such an essential part of our students lives. Many of them are continuing their learning in band or choir while others will get their first experience with music education this year. Parents and families in the community have shown generous support for our new music program, yet our students still need many essentials to kick start a successful year in music.
Learning to play a musical instrument is a valuable experience for a young person and can deeply impact their life.
For many of these students, middle school will be their first exposure to a music class in school. My job is to make sure their first experience is positive, fulfilling, and fun. That's why I am asking for your help.
My Project
My students need Measures of Success music books for the many different band instruments and the piano to develop their music reading skills. This classroom set of books will be used with future students to guide each player through exercises specific to their instrument. Learning to read music is an important skill for young musicians to develop. Like learning to read a language, music reading skills come with consistent practice. Students who can take their own book home to practice on their own time will develop those skills much faster and more thoroughly.
Many students can't afford their own book so they depend on the school to supply these materials.
Offering these books to students will give them the autonomy they need to further their music learning as they grow more independent. I want to give them the opportunity to work at their own pace while learning how to play as a member of the band.
