This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Young children enjoy singing, dancing to music, and listening to stories. In a world where technology is the way to the future, the best way to make my pre-K students' first year of school enriching and memorable is to expose them to a tech-savvy environment of music and story-telling.

Just like a typical public school in Southern California, my students come from a very diverse group of families and backgrounds.

For some, this is their first time going to school, which can indeed be daunting for four-year-olds. My job as their teacher is to make their daily experience in school as entertaining as possible through music, songs, and dramatic play.

My Project

An iPod Touch in the classroom will benefit my students in a variety of ways. Through music, I can upload all of the songs from the countless of children's cd's I have accumulated through the years. This will enable me to create playlists for easy access and listening. No longer will I have to fumble upon the cd's looking for the exact songs I want my students to hear. The iPod's size is also manageable for quick transitions throughout the day. We can listen to music and sing songs anywhere; whether it be in the classroom, at the playground, or in the auditorium. Most importantly, children at this age love being read to. I have a reading center in the classroom where my students can listen to books on tape. However, with the fast-growing technology, tapes, and even audio cd's, are slowly taken over by e-readers. An iPod Touch in the reading center will help my students develop the habit of reading through Read Me Stories, an app which enables kids to see and hear stories come to life.

Children these days are enamored by technology.

I have two of my own, ages five and two, who are motivated and captivated by stories and games through the use of computers and iPods. I believe that bringing this device into the classroom will give me and my students a fun and enriching experience. Finally, for graduation, we can all enjoy watching a slideshow of pictures and videos taken throughout the year. With the iPod Touch, the possibilities are endless. Remember, College begins in Pre-K!
