Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I work with every one of our 600 amazing students, who are coming from a variety of cultures and backgrounds in Oakland and the surrounding area. 100% of our students are on free lunch and we are lucky to provide academic, social-emotional, physical, and mental support for the whole child. My students have only had music instruction in the classroom for the past two years, and we are all very excited to see what songs and dances we can learn to travel the world through music. Our students speak Spanish, Arabic, and English with their families at home, and we foster a culture of acceptance in the music room to welcome everyone's experience and self-expression, and celebrate the ways in which we are unique and the ways in which we are the same.

My Project

Music, media, videos, and more can be integrated into my students' general music education with the help of a Chromebook and an HDMI cord to attach to a projector. My students learn through reading music, reciting poems, singing songs, watching performances, and more. A computer like this would better help me introduce concepts and performances from a wide variety to dive into music from many perspectives.

We can watch and experience performances from around the world, music videos, project our music as we perform on recorders, glockenspiels, rhythm sticks, and more.

We would be so lucky to have this technology in the music room to help us grow.
