My Project
Our school has the highest refugee population in the nation. Our students come to school to learn, build connections, and be happy. They are kind, safe, productive, and focused on their future.
Support my 5th grade newcomer students in having ukuleles to tie together music and English language learning; and build upon musical traditions that are part of their culture.
A diverse curriculum that includes the arts and music will support my newcomer 5th grade students by offering new ways for them to explore their creativity, express themselves, and learn English hands-on. These ukuleles will help meet the needs of my newcomer students. Their families have requested musical instruments in the classroom for their children; and they will be thrilled to see beautiful new ukuleles in the hands of every newcomer student. They will be used in my classroom during a 12-week ukulele music lessons course, then shared with other 5th grade newcomer students at our school. The benefits of having music instruments in the classroom are endless.
