My Project

My students with disabilities, including those with autism, learn best through multi-sensory activities. Music is the perfect strategy to tap into the strengths of the students at my school! Classroom teachers and speech-language pathologists often report that music is where they see the kids most engaged and responsive, demonstrating critical vocabulary, academic, and social-emotional skills. Through music, students don't realize they are learning, because... they're "just having fun"!

Providing music kits for classroom use, with access to the entire student body for school-wide music events, supports student-led learning by tapping into their strengths and playful learning style!

As the lead music teacher of my school, I would organize, distribute, collect, and inventory the instruments, materials, and music props. This project is is one I intend to build over time until there's enough materials for all students. This current project is "Part 2." Music kits will allow all students to have equitable access to materials for classroom performances, school-wide music events, classroom music centers, sing-alongs, holiday activities, and parent-engagement activities, as well as extended learning, supported through fun music making throughout the school day!
