Museum of Character and Setting
My students need Model Magic, graph paper, and markers to design a school-wide book and character museum.
Help us share a love of reading with our community. A school-wide student-created museum that celebrates our favorite characters and books would bring together readers of all ages.
The students at our school thrive in opportunities to show their creativity.
In this urban setting school, roughly 75% of the families are identified as low-income. The vast majority of families cannot afford programs that involve students in artistic creation. Our current budget limits art instruction and materials at our school.
Children will use Model Magic and markers to design a sculpture that represents a favorite book character. Children will design a cubic 3-dimensional setting for this character with graph paper. These materials will present an opportunity to bring together children and families to share a love of books. Children will show their understanding of character and setting and inspire others to read a cherished book. The character and setting museum will be on display for family events at the school.
A museum devoted to sharing what children love about books brings together children and families to participate in reading opportunities.
Showcasing student appreciation of literary arts can impact family and community involvement in the reading lives of children.
