Where exactly is the thorax? Are the lungs exactly symmetrical? How do all the intestines fit in there? 2D images just don't do our human bodies justice!
My students are an incredibly diverse and talented group of individuals, many of whom aspire to go into medical professions.
Across six different classes of 30 students, I have a wide range of abilities and learning styles, but all of them desperately need a 3D visual aid when learning about the human body systems.
My Project
Throughout the year, this torso will serve as a life-size example of what we are exploring. It will be vital for grounding our conversations and serving as a reference point when students are struggling to describe what's going on inside our body. It will be used to illustrate the interplay between digestive, cardiovascular, respiratory, nervous and skeletal systems. It will also help us learn anatomical positions and regions.
I can already imagine the the excited exclamations of teenagers as they finally see and feel exactly how the liver is situated or how the heart looks.
This will bring the rigorous work of learning anatomy and physiology out of the realm of worksheets and into real life. Thank you for helping make it possible!
