My Students
My students represent a wide range of academic, physical, mental, and emotional capabilities. My team and I are committed to supporting the kids' high needs and bringing them up out of the low-performance category.
I teach at a Title I school in Philadelphia where students have very limited resources.
All students come from low-income families. Located in the heart of a racially/ethnically diverse neighborhood, students are exposed to numerous cultures. My vision is for students to understand, respect, and appreciate cultures by being exposed to a variety of music.
Music class is an opportunity for my students to express themselves. Regardless of their challenges, my kids can find their place and succeed. My mission for them is to provide as many opportunities to create and dive deeper into music, as well as performing and connecting with the community.
My Project
The music classroom is new at my school this year. Along with my staff and administration, I plan to build up the students' music program.
My John Marshall Avengers need technology to further their music education and performance opportunities.
Every music classroom should have a decent sound system; this one comes with stands and is portable, so it could be used outside the classroom too for the students' assemblies and concerts. It also comes with a microphone! The white board is double-sided and multi-purpose. One side has music staves at different heights for students of all sizes to notate music. The other side is blank and could serve as a projection surface. The projector will be used to display movement activities and interactive music lessons; my older students will use it to present their own ideas and creations to others, in preparation for secondary education.
This package will cause my students to come together: as a group, a class, a grade, and a school. My John Marshall Avengers will be able to learn, create, and practice in the classroom before performing for their parents and connecting with the community.
