I love that my students are happy to be at school. I love that they come to group and want to learn and share what is important to them as their needs range significantly. They are diverse in so many ways, especially academically. They love all the freedom I give them as learners to make choices but they work hard and do their best. Not every day is rosy but we work on sharing using our words when things are not so peachy. My kids are hungry. All the time. They ask for food constantly.
My Project
My students come from a variety of backgrounds and home-life situations. They are always hungry and come to me for food daily. I want to be able to continue to provide for them. At my school we send food home with kids on the weekends and make arrangements for holidays as well. Hungry is a huge need. I have always fed kids and I find that it makes a difference in their ability to engage. I have a hard time when I am hungry so I can only imagine a child in school all day hungry (despite having free or reduced lunch). It is great my students feel comfortable asking for food and after all, it is a problem I can solve with your help!
