My Students
I teach a small group of 3rd-5th grade students with a variety of cognitive, physical and speech impairments in my school's Specific Learning Supports Program. For each student, learning occurs differently and the needs of each student is never the same. But this is the beauty of the learning process in my classroom. To watch my students attack independent learning goals, while developing social relationships with their peers, has been nothing short of amazing.
My students are currently in the space where they are enjoying distance learning but still missing the classroom experience.
In the classroom, the tools that we use to track student data and to manage small groups are easily accessible. However at home, not so much. We are hoping that a request for a small piece of technology will go a very long way.
My Project
We are in need of an iPad that will assist with tracking student engagement while delivering live instruction via computer. This will ensure that students are remaining focused during instruction and to answer clarifying questions that they may have. As a part of their accommodations, my students require a bit more repetition of instructions than their general education peers. While this strategy is a bit easier to achieve in the classroom, we still want to make sure that students are receiving instruction similar to in-person instruction as possible.
It's amazing the things that are taken for granted now that we are away from the classroom.
Funding this project will allow me to also track student data as I would in the classroom. I am able to access apps such as ClassDojo to communicate with parents during virtual instruction as well as student learning apps that will be utilized during small group and whole group instruction. An iPad would assist us with multitasking in our virtual space. Once we are back in school, it can be used for the same purposes. Although very small in appearance, it will provide us with huge success for our classroom.
