Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
As an elementary math teacher, the most important concept for students to learn and understand is place value. Using a multisensory approach to teaching will give all students the strong foundation they need to understand place value. This will increase their memory of numeracy applications not only in elementary school but as they continue to grow as learners.
My school has a diverse population of learners that require diverse opportunities to work with numbers.
The craft sticks and glass beads will be used to make patterns, bundles and for composing and decomposing tens and ones. The visualization of the numbers will help them understand magnitude and other concepts of quantity. We will use the beads and string to make "strings with wings" as a tool for multiplication and division. The rubber bands and trays will help us keep our materials organized.
