This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

I'm a special educator at a Title-I high school where many of my students come from low-income households and receive special education services. My students are bright, creative, and determined young people who happen to struggle with dyslexia. For them, reading and writing often feel like climbing a mountain without the right equipment. Yet every day, they show up with courage and resilience. They deserve the chance to experience success, not just struggle.

Many of my students have felt defeated in traditional classrooms, but I know they can thrive with the right tools.

This is where you and I come in. With access to multisensory resources that match the Orton-Gillingham approach, they can finally unlock the words on the page, build confidence, and discover the joy of reading. My mission is to ensure they leave my classroom not only stronger readers but also stronger believers in themselves.

To make this possible, I am requesting supplies that bring learning to life: a laminator and pouches for durable phonogram cards, a printer and ink for individualized practice, dry erase boards and markers for interactive lessons, and organizational tools to keep materials accessible.

With these resources, my students will practice reading, spelling, and writing in ways that are hands-on, engaging, and tailored to their needs. Most importantly, they will gain the confidence to see themselves as successful learners—something every child deserves.
