This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

I work with hardworking and dedicated students every day to build decoding and encoding skills. As we all know, students all learn differently! Educational research clearly shows that students learn best using different modalities. By engaging the visual, auditory, kinesthetic, and tactile senses, connections are formed in the brain to cement learning.

This project aims to meet the needs of all students by providing materials that promote multisensory learning.

Reading does not come naturally to humans, and this type of instruction uses multiple senses to establish new pathways in the brain.

The materials in this project will be used in small group reading instruction in a variety of ways to meet student needs. If students are working on blending sounds they may use the magnetic blocks or a race car on a "road" to help them "move" the individual sounds together for successful blending. Tracing letters in a tray with rice provides students with multisensory input that helps them remember not only how to form the letter but also the name and sound. These materials will be used as needed to help all students be successful.
