This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My students come from a low income, high poverty, and high crime area in the Bronx. Some of them have been witness to things that no child should ever see, and yet they come into school each day with a smile on their face and a drive to succeed. My students are creative and exuberant, and they are filled with such life and passion that they make me strive to become a better person every single day of my teaching career. They give me hope that one day each and every one of them will make a profound difference in this world, and if they can always continue to push for greatness admist such adversity, then so can I.
My Project
The students in my math class want and need to use web-based programs to further their math education during small group instruction. These web-based programs highlight deficiencies in the child's math education and then creates lessons that target these most needed skills. The programs are educationally based but provide the students with opportunities to learn these skills through multiple mediums including games and basic practice. The students will also use these programs to complete family playlists where the students become the teachers. They will work with their families on current math concepts and create artifacts with their family members showing their understanding of the topic. These artifacts allow both the students and family members access to the math curriculum and helps to create lasting bonds within the family unit. These tablets would allow my students access to these programs on a daily basis, which not only helps them become smarter but allows them to build up their self-confidence.
